John McGinley Coach Travel

Negative experience: Run off the road this evening in Dublin by a Mcginley bus driver. Reported to traffic watch and the company. Zero stars for dangerous driving.

Fantastic experience: Six of us needed transportation to and from a Dublin Airport Hotel to Rossapenna Resort in Downings in Donegal, a 4-4 1/2 hour journey (each way). I dealt with James over the course of several months to arrange everything. He was always very informative and friendly. We got a very fair price, a wonderfully comfortable van, and a very skilled, friendly driver, Shara. Thank you, James, Shara, and McGinley Bus for a wonderful experience! Sean Kelly USA

Fantastic experience: We would like everyone to know how impressed we were with our coach driver, Martin, who toured us around and about from Dublin to Belfast to Galway to Tralee to Kilkenny (and on and on) for two solid weeks. Besides patience with us tour participants and extensive local knowledge Martin demonstrated absolutely mad driving skills, piloting our coach through tiny congested streets and lanes in the towns and villages, and dealing calmly with idiot drivers and other hazards both there and on the motorways. We felt 100% safe and confident in his hands. Well done Martin! And congratulations to McGinley if, as I’m sure Martin would say, all of the McGinley drivers match his level of skill.

Fantastic experience: I am currently on the Dublin to Letterkenny bus and it is a wonderful experience. The bus is brand new, and it's a first class travelling experience

Negative experience: Booked Derry to Dublin bus. Could have booked cheaper translink or aircoach service but wanted a premium more comfortable bus. They detoured to Lifford and kicked everyone off the bus and put us onto a different bus from the Donegal route. This bus was packed, barely a seat on it and it was old and musty like an old school bus. Taking its customers as just numbers. Really let down as was looking forward to travel in a premium coach and preferred to give my money to a local family. Next time I will book aircoach.

Fantastic experience: Such a friendly, caring service. I was booked on the 8.30 pm from Dublin but found myself ready to go home earlier. When I asked, it was no problem to get on the 5.45pm. Thanks for being so accommodating and so nice with it. Would recommend Mc Ginley’s to anyone for their high standard of customer service and warmth.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic service Comfortable Friendly Very helpful staff

Negative experience: I used McGinley sparingly for years as I travelled their routes very infrequently. They do not take card on the bus, but the red-haired lady I typically ran into always carried what appeared to be a contactless card machine, complete with the symbol for contactless payment. However, they typically had me call the office and give the card details and took payment this way, which was no problem. One day, myself and a friend found ourselves stranded in Lifford and needing to get from there to Letterkenny. We saw a McGinley coach pull up and got on. We were approached by the red-haired lady with the device looking suspiciously like a contactless card machine. We didn't have cash on us and I asked if I could pay by card, as I often did. The response was a very annoyed "Naw, naw ten years later and we still don't take card". I asked politely if I could just know what price they charge from Lifford to Letterkenny, so I could call the office and pay with the card details as I usually did. "It’s ten o'clock at night: who do you think's gonnae be in the office at this time?!". Valid point, I hadn't thought of that. But there are nicer ways of saying it, particularly to paying customers. I had to call another friend who happened to be in Letterkenny and ask her to withdraw cash from an ATM and meet us off the bus. I wouldn't have had a problem with this if the red-haired lady's manner hadn't been so rude: she watched me make the phone call, and if looks could kill... At Letterkenny, I got off the bus, on the phone with the girl who was waiting with the cash. The red-haired lady made sure I left my bag and my friend on the bus while I walked the five feet from the bus to the girl with the cash and back over. The entire journey was dreadful as the friend I was with has a nervous nature and felt so very uncomfortable with and frightened by the red-haired lady's manner. I will not be using McGinley again under any circumstances. It costs nothing to be nice and even less not to be hateful. I like supporting small, family-run businesses, but I'll go with anyone but McGinley in the future I'm afraid.

Negative experience: Find this bus company to be the worst. ZERO customer service skills starting from the drivers right through to the ones that collect the money and give tickets, look like they hate there jobs so moody and miserable looking. It really is a last resort to get this bus company absolutely horrible experience..

Fantastic experience: Traveled to a match with this company on 10/12 as part of a package tour from Celtic Horizon Tours with my partner and grandchild, such a comfortable trip we had. I would highly recommend them we had two drivers on board throughout the trip, we were picked up at Dublin port took on to the ferry to Holyhead and then to Manchester for a match, took to our hotel after the match and next day brought back to Dublin. All went so smoothly given great direction by one of the guys on board as to where and what time to be back on the coach, will definitely travel with them again.

Fantastic experience: My family and I spent 7 days with our Driver, Brian, and our tour guide Gerry. We stayed in Galway, Dublin and Letterkenny (between Donegal and Derry). The travel, narration, personal attention to every passenger and incredible preparedness and depth of knowledge were first class. Our last day was routed through another company, bus, driver and guide, meaning it apparent that we were very well cared for. I hope return again and see them both.

Fantastic experience: Bought a return ticket from Dublin airport to Dunfanagy. Expect a little leway on times as traffic can be unpredictable for the drivers. Excellent, helpful staff and a very clean coach. Top marks from me and would choose this service next time, well done to the McGinley team.

Negative experience: Only took cash and left without us! 2023- get with it!

Fantastic experience: We recently went on the Soap Tours. It was a great trip. Our driver Sean was very helpful, and the drive was lovely.

Negative experience: The bus was 20minutes late, nobody informed us and we kept asking all the people standing in the terminal, where is the bus, we thought we where lost. Passengers get their seats in a random way in a bus. If you want a comfortable and trouble free trip look elsewhere.

Negative experience: The bus (we took it from Dublin airport) had a 15' delay on a rainy day, no clear signs where the bus leaves from, I was asking all around and no one knew about the bus while I was running around with a toddler to find the bus. When finally the bus arrived there were no places to sit both the parents with the toddler since no-one was willing to move their bags from the free sits next to them. The driver found us two places to sit both me and the father with our toddler. Travelling with a toddler definitely this experience it was the worst.

Negative experience: Buses seen on website are not the ones that run to dublin airport from letterkenny. Also switched busses in Monaghan to a more crowded bus. I tried to use a local business but will be using bus eireann from now on.

Fantastic experience: Buncrana to Dublin today, reliable on time and great comfortable journey. Online booking is great. Was able to take large luggage item no problem and no extra charge.

Negative experience: Bus stopped in Lifford and had everyone get down and get on another bus, which was much more crowded than the first one. So everyone had to take their belongings and get on another bus. The trip was extremely uncomfortable, with the bus being so full. Then the bus stopped again at a service station in Monaghan for 15 minutes, which I have never seen in a service of this kind. Of course, you can imagine that 15 minutes became easily 20 so I got very concerned as I had another bus to take in Dublin. People got back in the bus with food so the last part of the trip was even more uncomfortable with the heat on the bus and people eating all sorts of smelly food. I think that eating on buses should not be allowed, but here it was encouraged. Driver was also going very fast to make up for the time. It got to Dublin in time, thankfully, but this was the only saving grace. Terrible experience. I booked this bus cause it took less time than the other buses doing the same route, but I would never to it again. Translink is much better.

Negative experience: Have increased their prices twice recently, no way should it cost 40 euro return for a bus that is rarely on time and some drivers very rude and dangerously driving. Will opt for Bus Eireann from now on.

Negative experience: Terrible and unsafe driving; unnecessarily aggressive placing the passengers and other drivers at risk. Repeatedly overtaking in the heavy rain on a busy dual carriageway. It’s important to stick to a schedule but not at the cost of safety

Negative experience: Bus stopped in lifford for 30 minutes to pick up passengers coming from inishowen because that bus wasn’t full. Was due in at 8:30 but came in at around 8:55 . Ended up missing my train and was stranded in Dublin as it was the last train

Positive experience: Better than Bus Eireann, that's for sure - there is wifi, the buses are clean and if you're a Highland radio fan you'll be as happy as the proverbial pig. Staff are polite and friendly too. Overall I'm a happy customer. The timetable is one area I would highlight for improvement as the buses run late (at least if you're traveling to Dublin). For example: if travelling from Letterkenny to Dublin you should expect to add 15 minutes extra to each stop until Monaghan. After Monaghan add 30 minutes extra to each stop as there is a break of 15 minutes which is not included in the official timetable. This is something to be mindful about particularly if you are travelling to the airport.

Negative experience: extremely rude ticket lady , overcharged us, extremely warm and no air conditioning although bus drivers are helpful , disappointing staff made trip going to and from very unpleasant

Negative experience: Let me badly by not stopping at requested stop for my American visitors. They gad to find transport back 10 miles to there intended destination.

Negative experience: Service is good but the driver is not suitable for a job dealing with the public, very rude, unpleasant way with him. Maybe he was having an off day or maybe he shouldn't be in a customer facing role.

Positive experience: Mediocre service Pros: - lower price than busaras - frequent schedule Cons: - schedule, on bank holidays or sundays, buses never arrive as mentioned on the website timetable, you need to call to find out new time - if you’re onboarding on the pick up station, you need to wait on the street, near the bus till all people do their staff (eat, smoke, toilets e.g), get onboarded and only afterwards you MIGHT get a seat, or not. So you cant be 100% confident that you would depart.

Our driver Brian Mcgingley has won the hearts of every member on our trip to donegal. Brian collected us on monday 31st in shinrone birr co offaly ,up to the mount errigal hotel in letterkenny .We had trips every day .
