Negative experience: Disappointing in general, and more so because of the complete lack of follow-up after mistakes were made with our bookings & flights for our family of four. Our seats on our flights to & from America were not at all as we were told upon booking, being neither together nor even close and being stuck in the middle rather than the aisle & window as promised. The first hotel in New York did not receive our request for an extra fold-out bed and tried to charge us upon arrival for that. Then when we got to the hotel in Chicago, we were told by the very nice staff on reception that only one room was booked and not two as paid for as part of the package. We had to contact the emergency number and thankfully the girl on the end in the UK eventually gave payment for a second room, albeit not interconnecting as requested. I also had to turn on my data roaming to make & take these calls which resulted in another lump of money to my bill when I returned. We would have expected a call or something on return to explain or apologise for the Chicago hotel booking mistake especially as I’m sure it would have been brought to their attention since April, when it happened. All we received was a feedback form, and even after noting the above, we still had zero response or follow-up. I held off reviewing this in the hope that somebody would get in touch to at least apologise, but two months on, here you go - avoid if you can.
Negative experience: Do not use American Holidays. I paid them a lot of money to book my holiday but on my arrival at the hotel I was told it hadn't been booked and I had to pay the hotel. First of all the emergency phone number they supply doesn't work so I had no choice but to pay hotel. Emailed AH immediately. After a dozen emails, American Holidays refunded me but they continued to blame the hotel and their "3rd party" booker. They missed the point again and again that my dealings were with them and not anyone else. They have written to me saying "we're sorry you feel we were at fault" Well whose fault is it that there was a gigantic cock up??? They are a horrible company with unprofessional, unsympathetic people working for them. I will never ever use them again and make sure that anyone I know doesn't use them. They got my money and then they didn't care. Avoid them. They will do the bare minimum, take your money and run.

Fantastic experience: Fabulous! Within an hour or so, of filling out the online enquiry form, Shona was in contact with me to start getting a suitable package together. No pressure, friendly, knowledgeable and professional throughout. I was absolutely delighted with her advice and the package she had put together for me and had no hesitation booking. Shona was always super responsive to my many questions, even after booking was completed. I knew I had chosen the right company to book with. But then, good old Aer Lingus had to put a fly in the ointment and cancelled their Gatwick service which we had booked for our BA flight to Orlando. I emailed Shona to ask how we were going progress, of course she replied within minutes to let me know the team would be in touch to discuss once they had assisted impacted customers who were travelling in the months before us. I was very concerned about what impact this was going to have on our trip but I shouldn't have worried as only a few days later Olivia called and provided even better flight options than before - but moreover covered the impact and changes clearly and concisely on the call to ensure I knew exactly what was happening. 5 stars! Great company to deal with, can't recommend highly enough.

Fantastic experience: I have recently booked a family holiday to Orlando with American Holidays. The ease with which I was able to book flights, accommodation and park tickets to both Disneyland and Universal took all the hassle out of the process. The friendly staff were also able to recommend, based on their own experiences, combinations of tickets and other attraction to see while there. I would have no problem recommending American Holidays to anyone.
Fantastic experience: We booked my husbands 60th Birthday Fly/Drive with Jennifer and Kristin to California finishing off in Vegas, We must say from Start to Finish, it was perfect, all hotels were fantastic and rooms ready for each of our stops and Car Rental was ready in the Airport with no problems. We were given a list of things to do on our Drive from San Francisco to Monterey/Santa Barbara/Las Angela's and Vegas and they were great directions and itinerary was brilliant, Kristin got us to change a stay in a Hotel in LA to another hotel that she totally recommended and OMG, we couldn't be so over the moon with the Hotel - we definitely will be booking again in the near future and we have recommended to all our friends and family . Negative experience: I have been a customer of American Holidays for over 20 years and spent countless thousands of euros with the company. While I am booking a holiday and handing over money they are on the ball and super helpful but as soon as I try to get a refund for a holiday we didn't get to go on due to Covid all I can get at best is a copy and paste email response or at worst I have been completely ignored, emails not answered, phone messaged not returned etc. I put down over 7 hundred euros of a deposit for a holiday in January 2020 which didn't happen due to Covid and was issued a credit note in August 2020 which I didn't get to use. Now I am trying to get my money back however American Holidays thinks it is ok to keep my money despite never having supplied me with the service I signed up for in 2020. Citizens Information states I am entitled to redeem my credit note for a cash refund 9 months from when the credit note was issued but American Holidays refuses to refund me MY hard earned money. How can you expect people to come back to you for future holidays when you have treated them so badly. I will not be letting this go, I am giving you a week from this review and then I will be taking it to the Small Claims Court. One way or another I will be getting my money back.
Fantastic experience: Contacted Ashling from American Holidays almost 2 years ago to sort a trip for New York to Miami, due to covid we had to cancel our trip, the staff at American Holidays sorted everything for us no hassle and we are now booked for 2022 thanks to Sharon, excellent service, we wouldn't go to anyone else when booking a trip to America in the future.

Negative experience: We have travelled with American holidays for years without any problems and would have recommended them to anybody until now also. Holiday cancelled by American holidays understandably with the situation. All we are getting is the run around and told we would get a refund in Feb 2021. There is only 1 person working in this household the same goes for most households in the country due to covid 19. We are entitled to a refund of our monies they are breaking the law. Cant even speak to anybody, only e maiks it is disgraceful.
Negative experience: Acutely disappointed when it comes down to the handling of the Covid-19 situation by American Holidays. The lack of communication on their part is beyond a joke. At the beginning of April, more than two weeks before we were due to travel, we had continuously tried to contact American Holidays, considering they weren’t trying to contact us. We rang numerous times and sent numerous emails in order to start the process of refunding our trip. No response. We received the generic response of “it may take up to 28 days or more to respond in full”. After eventually receiving a response from American Holidays, after I had sent them a message on Facebook, I was told that “American Holidays has already responded to Natalie as the lead passengers on this booking. Any future communication should be directed through the lead passenger”. That is perfectly fine. But what American Holidays has failed to do was to ACTUALLY communicate with Natalie as the lead passenger on this booking. The last correspondence we received from American Holidays was on April 24th and we replied to this email requesting them to start processing our refund and that we would not be able to accept a voucher. There has been no communication ever since. That was 19 days ago. We were due to fly out on May 9th. We were still getting emails from our internal American flights on May 8th reminding us to check in. Clearly these flights hadn't been cancelled. So much for been dealt with on a date by date basis. This whole experience with American Holidays has been an absolute joke. There was no lack of communication at the booking stage when our money was been handed over. But now, there is nothing but radio silence. I understand the difficulties that come with these unprecedented times but clearly, it’s not a once off as this seems to be an issue for several people. I understand that it is difficult for them, but this is our hard-earned money. Considering when we booked, we would've highly rated this company, I wouldn't say the same now. I believe that they have fallen short of providing their customers with adequate support. We've been completely left in the dark throughout this whole process which is extremely distressing. They’re not only behaving unprofessionally and insensitively but they are breaking the law too. We know our rights and know that we are entitled to a refund under the Package Holidays and Travel Trade Act 1995. The Consumer Protection Commission have been notified and a complaint has been filed against American Holidays. We also aware that if our refund has been refused or where our refund has not been provided within 14 days this matter can be referred to the Consumer Protection Division. The Taoiseach himself spoke about travel refunds today on TV3 news and he said, “the law is the law and consumers are entitled to their refunds”. As soon as the doors to American Holidays open, we will stand in front of them to remind potential passengers of the dangers of booking with them. Word of advice for people AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.
Negative experience: AVOID AVOID AVOID. I'm really disappointed with this company! Initially when booking they were fast friendly and responsive and I would have rated them highly. Now that we are requesting a refund due to covid, it's radio silence. It's impossible to speak to anyone directly and all we have received is a standard email stating we must wait a month for a response. This is not good enough! I understand AH must be inundated but this is a stressful time for everyone. We are massively out of pocket, with no holiday to show for it. It takes 2 minutes to write an email explaining that you will handle our refund in due course to help reassure your customers. However, it would appear to us that you took our €8,500 and have no intention of giving it back. Cowboys! This is our savings and hard earned cash. OURS not yours! And you are breaking the law. I understand you are worried about your business going under but you are certainly not helping yourself by treating customers like this! Because when all this is over, people will remember this. We will not be silenced until we get every penny of our money back!
